Winsome Waltz

By Cary W. Tucker

While gracefully waltzing around the gazebo
And turning to gaze in her deep, midnight eyes,
I savored a dance at the end of a rainbow--
A moment more gold than the sunniest skies.

We whirled o'er the woods with a river of dancers
Like colorful autumn leaves carried downstream;
The oak crannog shook with the rhythm of lancers
As underground giants awoke from a dream.

The view spun a blur with the music crescendo,
And left us alone in the eye of a storm,
Permitting me passion without innuendo--
The honor of holding her feminine form.

Her em'rald gown shone through the fog and the fol'age;
Her smile all but silenced the song of the brass,
For in her embrace, I was burned with the knowledge:
How lucky to dance with so lovely a lass.
