Who Was To Know?

I left Istria...
The borders I crossed,
To find a better fortune,
A coin I tossed.
Pages turned on their own.
To a new place I traveled,
To me a place of unknown.
A place to unravel...
I kept company with the moon,
Survived on a strong will.
In New York--my new home,
I had so many dreams to fill!
Unleashing my feelings
Wishing to go back to simplicity.
To the old place I loved,
I could find no duplicity.
Other scenes played inside of me.
Must be the dreamer I really was?
Again to discover the true side to
Me, I'd put my heart on 'pause.'
Lost sleep...like a geyser--
My feelings would overflow,
That I would turn words to poetry,
Who was to know?
