A pOeT gOnE mAd

By Silvana Krculic

On a sun-warmed bench
The poet sat

Of those that didn't know him,
Some would say:'So what...?'

He wrote
Of the fields of grain,
And the robin singing after the rain

In the apartment by the park
The phone stopped ringing,
Dead battery on the clock,
Rent long overdue...

The front door, somewhat broken
Is now locked;

His lips pressed lightly
On a beer-can
Short time empty:

The long stare
In his eyes has said it all
How sweet's the wine of his county.

On the grass
Where he has stayed
An old book's been: laid...

For those who read
The tale is sad: it's that of a 'poet-thinker'-
Gone mad

No longer on defensive
They found him tongue-tight and pensive;

His hair got long, un-kept and gray,
His eyes opened:
With a stare-glance
It looked like...
He didn't have a chance.

Some said:'He cried...'
Now:
You can see a red-rose
In the place
Where the old man died.

If you find the book
Please read the part:

Where the words
Among the leaves of-Autumn
Turn to art.
